Operation of inductive proximity
switches
The inductive proximity switch is based on the principle of
an attenuated LC oscillator .
The coil of the resonant circuit generates a high frequency
magnetic field . This stray field occurs at the sensing face of the proximity
switch (Fig. 1 ) .
Upon penetration of metal or non-ferrous metal into the
response energy is extracted . Thus, the oscillator is damped . The resulting
change in current consumption is evaluated.

The capacitive

If a medium such. B. Wood , plastic , water , glass , metal or non-ferrous
metal in the response range of the proximity sensor changes the capacitance of
the resonant circuit capacitor and the oscillator to oscillate.
